COVID-19 UPDATE FROM OUR CEO
Los Angeles (September 25, 2008) - In a race decided by brakes and handling, The Turner Motorsport team earned a checkered flag at this year's Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah on StopTech brakes. StopTech, the ultra-performance division of Centric Parts, is a leading manufacturer, supplier and innovator of world class brake components and brake systems for production-based race cars and high performance vehicles on the street and track.
In the 44-lap Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series at the Miller Motorsports Park on Sunday, September 21, Bill Auberlen and Matt Alhadeff teamed up to pilot the Turner Motorsports' Motul Lubricants/StopTech Brakes BMW M3 to a first place Grand Sport victory, repeating the feat for the third year in a row. They started from inside the top ten but Alhadeff was into the top five on the first lap, then to third on the third lap. He would move up one more spot before making a pit stop for fuel, tires, and the driver change for Bill Auberlen. The #96 car would be back in the top five less than ten laps later and would advance from there. With four laps remaining, Auberlen took the race lead with a classic out-braking maneuver into Turn 1 for an inside pass against a Porsche that can be viewed on Centric's new YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/CentricParts. With the pack battling behind him, he was un-challenged for the remaining few laps. Along the way the team also drove the fastest race lap.
"This car was sweet the entire race but especially at the end there when I had a perfect combination of brakes, tires, and handling. I have to give this win to the StopTech Brake guys - they were just phenomenal," said driver Bill Auberlen. "This race was won with great brakes and great handling - the things that BMWs are so praised over and Turner Motorsport develops so well. My teammate Matt Alhadeff did a super job getting us to the front in the early stages."
The race will be broadcast on October 12 at 11:00am (ET) on The Speed Channel. There is just one race remaining on the 2008 KONI Challenge calendar - Twin Six-Hour races at Virginia International Raceway. Those will take place over the weekend of October 4-5.
