COVID-19 UPDATE FROM OUR CEO
SAINI SIZZLES FOR TEAM STOPTECH BY EXTENDING SUMMER WINNING STREAK WITH VICTORY AT AUTOBAHN GRAND PRIX
Los Angeles (July 2009) - Jason Saini of Tri-Point MotorSports drove to his second SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car win of the season in the Grand Prix at Autobahn. The Round 6 victory at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois, followed Saini earning pole-position a day earlier in his the No. 74 MAZDASPEED/Stoptech/ProParts MAZDA6 with a blistering lap during the qualifier.
That one-two punch adds to Team StopTech's "Podium or Pole-Position" season and extends a hot summer winning streak that includes an SCCA SPEED GT victory by StopTech's CEO earlier in the month during Round 5 at Watkins Glen. Team StopTech, which is itself not an actual race team, consists of the select production based race cars from the Tri-Point Motorsports, GMG Racing and Turner Motorsport teams competing on StopTech performance brakes in the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series and the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Series.
Saini, set the fastest lap of the qualifying session (2:38.148 / 81.038 mph), to claim his second-career pole position. Saini then led a two-car Tri-Point Motorsports breakaway at the start of the race, with teammate Eric Foss in tow in the No. 75 MAZDASPEED/Stoptech/ProParts MAZDA6. Saini never relinquished, cruising away to a 1.149-second win, averaging 74.679 mph.
"The car was awesome into the corner, out of the corner," noted Saini of his StopTech-equipped MAZDA6. The victory was not only his second of this season, but also the 2008 World Challenge Touring Car Rookie of the Year's third career win.
Tri-Point has been a strong component of Team StopTech's "Podium or Pole Position" 2009 season before this SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Round 6 victory. Saini earned a first place finish at Round 3 in New Jersey. Charles Espenlaub and Jason Saini both visited the podium at Mosport International Raceway with second and third place finishes during Round 4. Espenlaub again finished second in Round 5 at Watkins Glen.
Saini's Round 6 victory at Autobahn will be broadcast on SPEED, August 18 at 2 p.m. (EDT). The series next travels to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Round 7 on starting on August 7.
